American Cruise Lines Fleet, Experience and Itineraries
As someone who has never been on a river cruise, I was surprised to see such a diverse line-up of modern ships. When cruising with American Cruise Lines, there are 3 small ship styles to choose from. Paddlewheelers, reminiscent of the classics that first cruised the Mississippi River, are modernized with state-of-the-art furnishings and equipment. Or enjoy a grand Coastal Cruise Ship or a sleeker Modern Riverboat. No matter which style you prefer, you will have luxurious comfort, elegant dining, modern amenities, and personalized service while on board. See why it's on my wish list and explore this amazing type of vacation below. Then, visit www.americancruiselines.com or call 800-460-4518 to find out more.
Fleet
The Styles: Paddlewheelers, Coastal Cruise Ships, and Modern Riverboats
The Ships: 3 (soon to be 4) Modern Riverboats, 4 Paddlewheelers, and 5 Coastal Cruise Ships
One of the reasons I'm enticed to experience an American Cruise Lines river cruise is the big ship feel without a lot of people. I don't like to be overcrowded and I've always heard a river cruise is a wonderful way to meet people, enjoy friendly staff, and see the scenic coastlines close up.
They have thought of everything! All three styles of American Cruise Lines ships will satisfy all of the cruisers in your family. With a variety of dining and cuisines, comfortable and elegant lounges with stunning views, welcoming sundecks and open outdoor spaces, spacious and bright cabins, and first-class, highly personalized service, it's exactly what you've dreamed a river cruise should be.
Experience
With single and multi-guest occupancy staterooms, there is plenty of room for the entire family to spread out. Some ships even provide balconies for their solo travelers (WOW! This is unheard of in the ocean cruise ship industry) and all have spacious suites for those who enjoy to stretch out.
But it is the amenities that makes cruising with American Cruise Lines a truly memorable vacation. As you calmly cruise throughout each region (smooth water is the ultimate in relaxation!) admire the gorgeous scenery and take the opportunity to participate in one-of-a-kind exclusive excursions, such as concerts, tours, and cultural events. On board, there are lectures and demonstrations plus many social events and programs geared for all ages. Take a look to see what sets them apart below. Can't wait to see more? Click here.
A river cruise is a fantastic way to explore New England (picture yourself savoring a traditional New England Seafood Boil) or dining on Cajun food down the Mississippi. The pairings of local favorites as you experience the region is a distinct advantage of a river cruise. See more about the cuisine here.

Itineraries
This is where I'm sold - look at the amazing itineraries below! These are the rivers that made the United States what it is today and it is this history and culture that you'll see first hand on a river cruise. With over 35 itineraries, American Cruise Lines has many ports throughout the country...you may even be able to drive to meet your cruise. For example, I live in Baltimore and tempted by the Chesapeake Bay Cruise to explore my own Maryland and Virginia on a fantastic 6-night itinerary (I'm picturing beautiful St. Michael's for steamed blue crabs,) To explore more, or if you are ready to book, visit www.americancruiselines.com or call 800-460-4518.
