In all of the cruises we've taken, March 2016 was the first time we visited a cruise line's private island. Cococay is owned by Royal Caribbean so it's a premier Bahamas destination for the Royal Caribbean owned ships. What fun it was! A perfect family spot, there are exclusive cabanas, water sports, snorkeling spots, a huge inflatable water park, delicious food and drinks and so much more. When we first arrived, right below our aft cabin we saw the crew stocking their tenders to deliver fresh food and supplies to the island before the guests were brought over. To visit Cococay, you have to take tenders over. It takes a bit longer to get to the fun, but it's worth it to see the gorgeous views of your ship anchored not too far away. Don't forget to bring the beach towels provided in your cabin (and sunscreen, of course,) Not that you have to, but I found it's definitely much easier to purchase your water activities excursion tickets on the ship ahead of time. Kids of all ages were having a fantastic time on their high, slick water slide all day. Or choose a convenient hour to play in the Aqua Park for climbing, bouncing and sliding. If you choose not to buy a pass for adults to visit the Aqua Park (located right off the beach in the water) you can easily see the kids and there is a lifeguard stationed at all times. Cococay also features excursions with water sports, nature trail walks and more. If you are interested in just lounging, you can reserve your own private cabana. Or grab your own cushy beach chair in the sun or relax on a hammock in the shade. With silky sand, crystal clear water, and lots of fish, don't hesitate to bring your snorkel gear and dive in right from the shore. Cococay is truly a fun-filled day on the beach. There are no solicitors who approach you, all of your food is complimentary, and beverages are available with your SeaPass just like you were still on the ship. With many dining facilities, it's like a large beach barbecue. They have an activity for everyone to enjoy...from water play, snorkeling, hiking on nature paths or just laying on your float in the calm, clear water (my personal choice!) Do you have any favorite experiences at Cococay? Write a comment below...I'd love to hear!

Here is a hint. Don't eat at the buffet nearest the water park. It is the busiest. Try the one closer to the tender landing. It is not as busy and it seems to have more food choices.

My Virtual Vacations BlogAbout the AuthorThanks for cruising by! Along with creating this website and blog, I work in an office full-time and as a mom to two energetic young men. With our family's busy work and school schedule, we look forward to traveling during holidays. Although it seems that our family can never agree on anything, we do when it comes to vacations. We typically travel on cruises or stay at luxury hotels while enjoying upscale dining, beautiful decor, excellent service, and spacious accommodations. However, we still need family friendly and comfortable! When we are not traveling, I enjoy dining out locally, as well as cooking and baking in my own kitchen.
