This is your chance to see a live mermaid! Jump back in time with a modern version of a past favorite and enjoy delicious food and drinks while MeduSirena and her "Pod" of "Aquaticats", or "Mermaids", entertain you. They are beautifully vivacious, waving and throwing kisses to the crowd as they seem to endlessly hold their breath underwater. Watch them swim past large glass portholes in nautical themed surroundings - it's a fantastic experience not to miss. Numerous celebrities and public figures have frequented the famous Wreck Bar since it first opened in Fort Lauderdale in the 1950's. Keep a lookout for Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio's signatures carved in the wood bar. Maybe you'll recognize the Wreck Bar from a scene in "Analyze This" with Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal. Of course, the show may have originated many years ago in the iconic Yankee Clipper Hotel, but it's been exquisitely kept up-to-date. Now as the B Ocean Resort in Fort Lauderdale, this contemporary and stunning resort recently completed extensive renovations in early 2017. The vibrant and spacious lobby beautifully compliments the landmark Wreck Bar. And you are encouraged to bring the kids! Everyone is welcome at the early show where the mermaids swim to the beat of live DJ's and perform to the delight of the enthusiastic crowd. So how do they do it? They never use a breathing tube or special equipment, but well-practiced to hold their breath for twenty seconds to one minute at a time. They start off by diving in an outdoor swimming pool located above the bar, dressed in glamorous seashells, mermaid tails, and waterproof makeup, of course. And come hungry! I was thrilled to see this isn't just your regular bar food. The full menu from the B Ocean Resort's signature restaurant Naked Crab is offered and it's absolutely phenomenal. Founder and Chef Ralph Pagano is well-known for his sophisticated style of preparing fresh surf and turf. He's been featured on Iron Chef, Good Morning America and The Today Show. A delicious meal along with a tropical Mai Tai (or a Shirley Temple for the kids) while watching mermaids is a dining experience to remember. Although you may need to get a babysitter for the late night show! In keeping with the original genre, MeduSirena and the Aquaticats late night swim show is restricted to 21 years of age and older as they perform true burlesque style. The next time you are visiting Fort Lauderdale area, the Wreck Bar at the B Ocean Resort is a must see! A big thanks to B Ocean Resort, Wreck Bar, MeduSirena and her Aquaticats, and Michael Trainor for providing us with an inside look and delicious cocktails.
