5 Easy Tips to Travel Active Even When You Don't Think You Can!

Stay Healthy While Traveling

Are you like me and throw workout clothes into your suitcase even though you aren't sure you'll actually wear them? But more and more, I really DO! It's becoming very easy to burn a few calories from dinner or drinks the night before when traveling. Hotels often offer state-of-the-art workout rooms and some, even swimming pools. Many cruise shops have immense gyms with beautiful ocean views, as well as various aerobic and dance classes poolside. Some even have sports courts. They incorporate it into part of the complimentary experience and it actually works!
If you regularly workout, you don't have to give up your fitness routine when you travel.  It's easy (and free!) to stay physically fit when you’re away from home.

Here Are 5 Easy Tips You Can Do When Traveling:
  • Research ahead of time fitness options at the hotel where you'll be staying.
  • At check-in, ask for a calendar of fitness activities and hours. On a cruise, review the daily schedule provided in your stateroom. You just might find something new that peeks your interest.
  • Download a fitness app on your phone for a 5 to 10 minute fitness routine you can do without even leaving your room.
  • Plan active excursions when exploring a new destination, like hiking or bicycling.
  • Eat right, make sure to drink lots of water, and don't forget to protect and moisturize your skin when traveling to hot climates.
See recommendations below where to stay in top shape while you travel. Explore workout rooms, sports equipment and well-being amenities found in your favorite vacation destinations.

Workout Rooms

Take this opportunity to try out a new piece of equipment or workout class. The best part is that the workout areas are often stocked with complimentary fresh towels, cold water and sometimes seasonal fruit. This is incentive on its own!

Even if you are traveling in the middle of a bustling city, many hotels have quiet workout rooms with high-tech cardiovascular machines and/or free weights. You may even discover a refreshing swimming pool for a quick swim that is an unknowing workout in itself.

Sports

At some hotels, you'll get energized to put on your tennis clothes and grab a tennis racquet so you can admire the views. Many hotels even offer complimentary bicycles to easily explore the area. You won't even realize you are exercising!

Cruises are known for having lots of food, although lots of exercise is also becoming standard. Expansive gyms and aerobic classes have always been popular. But now you can also play basketball, miniature golf, and more.

Health and Well-Being

Your health and well-being is now becoming part of the amenities of the hotel. For example, you can enjoy complimentary sun and skin products at many Ritz-Carlton resorts.

Bonus Tip:
A tip that I personally follow when I want to entice myself to exercise when traveling is to pack a new athletic outfit or purchase an iPhone fitness app. This gives me extra motivation to know I have something to look forward to when I'm away from home.
It's extremely important to take care of yourself when traveling. You'll be able to fight off jet lag much easier, have more energy for business meetings, or you may even find a new activity to enjoy when back home.

    About the Author

    Thanks for cruising by!
I'm the creator behind this blog, where I share our family’s love for travel, especially cruising. By day, I work full-time in an office—and all the time, I'm a proud mom to two amazing young men. We took our first cruise when they were energetic little boys, and I’ve included plenty of tips for traveling with kids in tow.

With our packed work and school schedules, we cherish every holiday break and make the most of our time off. We gravitate toward cruises and luxury hotel stays, always on the lookout for family-friendly experiences that offer comfort, elegance, and a touch of indulgence—think spacious suites, gorgeous décor, excellent service, and memorable dining.

When we're not traveling, you’ll find me enjoying local restaurants or getting creative in my own kitchen with cooking and baking.
Start dreaming—and planning—your next luxurious getaway, whether by sea or on land, with My Virtual Vacations. I'm always happy to answer questions or offer personalized recommendations to help you make the most of your travels. Be sure to check back often for new blog posts, travel tips, and inspiration—there are always more family adventures on the horizon!

I’m beyond excited to share that we’ll be sailing on the Celebrity Beyond again this summer! We'll be staying in The Retreat, enjoying a stunning suite and all the elevated perks that come with it. I can't wait to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the experience—so if you’ve ever considered booking a suite, stay tuned for plenty of insights and tips!

We’re also heading to one of our favorite places--Boca Raton, Florida—for a relaxing land vacation. It’s truly our happy place, and I’ll be sharing highlights from our stay there as well.
